Sansui 2000x vs Sansui 5050

Hi all. I'm just hoping to get some useful feedback from people that have had these receivers. I would like to get a Sansui and these two, a 2000x and a 5050 aren't too far from me. The 5050 is around $150 more than the 2000x. I know both are perfectly fine receivers, and I bet I would be happy with either. Are there things about one or both I should be aware of? Does anyone think one is clearly better than the other for some reason? If you have any good advice before I start talking to the owners I would appreciate it.

Having owned neither but a previous owner and fan of Sansui equipment, I'll throw this out.

They are both in the same ballpark I believe at 33 & 39 WPC wise, so not much difference.

For versatility sake the 2000X has Pre-Out/Main In, which if your not aware you can use the unit strictly as a Pre Amplifier connected to a separate Power amplifier.

You could also use it as a Power amplifier connected to separate pre.

I have a 2000X and a 6060 and I like them both. If the 5050 and 2000X you are looking at are both functioning as they should and in similar condition I'd go with the 2000X for a couple of reasons. Firstly I don't think that if both are in similar condition that the 5050 is worth any more than the 2000X. Secondly, the cabinet of the 2000X has wood veneer while the 5050 does not.

I'm also going to recommend the 2000X. The 5050 is a decent enough receiver (I have a 2000X and a 6060 here, for comparisons sake) but I don't consider the 5050 worth the extra being asked versus the 2000X that's available to you, and I have a soft spot for the capacitor coupled era receivers in the 2000/4000/5000 lineup anyway. The 2000X are very well built, have a good aesthetic, and If I'm being brutally honest, I do prefer the sound of the 2000X over the smaller models in the 5050-9090 line.

True enough that this is all subjective on my part, but I think you'll find the 2000X to be an excellent unit, assuming it's in good condition. Test thoroughly before you buy, if at all possible.

I believe the 2000X has input capabilities for 2 Phonos which is rarely needed these days. If you want an additional AUX input you could with the help of an electronics tech bypass the phono eq circuitry of the second phono and use it as a more useful aux input. Otherwise the pre-out amp-in feature is also good if you want to insert some form of signal processor - like a multi-band equalizer... If you had them side by side, the 2000X might give you a fuller upper bass (warmer) sound but not by much.

...or you could use tape monitor as another aux...@Monicker1 please don't take my comment as assault to you, personally I don't see a need to butcher these little vintage gems when you can have 2 healthy aux without any intervention...

As for sound 2000x is is well known cap. Coupled machine, I believe that 5050 is not...so different flavours I guess...

Don't know about x0x0 series, never had a chance to listen, however had few quality Sansui's over last couple of years, 2000x remains in the house.

And also requires high sensitivity speakers...
