this evening i was bored and i grabbed a dusty dingy sansui 3500 out of the crapstack outback and was about to part it out, but ended up doing a full refresh on it instead. i really didnt think it worked, but it turned out it worked fine, and with 2 hours of cleaning it turned out quite nice! it has a hell of a story behind it but i dont have time to tell it right now, anyways, i cant find much info on this model, and here are some pics..

sansui 3500

Weird coincidence- I just bought one at Goodwill for 23 dollars. Got it home tonight and not a scratch, no scratchy controls, and it sounds fabulous on the Large Advents. Now I can't decide sell or keep.
WoW, Ed

I have a Sansui 5500 that looks to be the big brother of this 3500.
I really like the wood cabinets that suround these units.
My 5500 is waiting to be cleaned and DEOXIT'd in the coming months.

Good luck, Al. Wise

Yeah, all the lights work except the tuner signal strength light
seems dim. The wood case is missing-maybe that's why the black
metal and paint are perfect.

I'm listening to SD AJA through one as I type this...I would love to know more about it too. I believe it's 30 or so watts, and it's very warm to my ears. I paid $20 for it years ago, and have listened to it almost everyday since. I love it, and would consider it to be the jewel of my very small and humble collection of vintage gear.

cool, yeah it really is a nice receiver, very well made and has silkey smooth sound. hope some sansui guru stops by and drops there two cents on it......

Still missing one filter cap?

I worked on this unit with Rob. We all "assumed" it was missing the filter cap. Upon taking off the bottom, there is no evidence the filter cap was ever there! No stray wires, no funny business at all. The other caps all have a dab of epoxy looking substance on and around the mounting screws.... no evidence of that on the screw holes around the missing cap. VERY WEIRD. The unit works fine though that big ol' whole where the cap should be would suggest otherwise.

Like someone else said, the interior looks just like that of a 4000 (45w per-channel), which is from the early '70's. Other models from the era are the 1000x, 2000x (39w per-channel), 5000x, and 7000x - All introduced in '72, I believe, and all sporting what looks to be the same basic design as yours (They all have mosfet output-stages, I'm pretty-sure). All have a very-warm, smooth, vibey sound that's very-musical and pleasing to the ears. The 3500 looks to be quite-rare, as this is the first time I've seen a picture of one. Did you check the classicsansui site and that other place I can't remember the name of at the moment (Google vintage Sansui receiver info, and you should find the two biggest sites for Sansui receiver specs).

That thing should make a good pair of east-coast or British speakers sing like a canary. LOVE my 2000x (and my 4000). Very-powerful considering the power-rating. And incidentally, if you come across a pair of Wharfedale W60E's or W60D's, they would be a great match for that 3500. I have the W60E's, and they sound awesome through my 2000x.
