Sansui 4000 1969 test report reprint

Recently I came across the following leaflet:
An original Sansui promotional reprint of a 1969 AUDIO Magazine test report of the Sansui 4000 receiver.

As far as I can find, this old test is not available online.
So here it is. I think it is readable, despite my poor picturing and the low resolution.

I loves my 4000, cap coupled without the typical muddiness and very musical. It's a keeper.

Too funny, I am literally listening to a pristine 4000 as I see this post. It's my garage system, served by an ifi Bluetooth receiver, then onto Wharfedale 8.3"s each with 25lbs of sand for dampening.

....and it's true. This receiver is VERY good sounding, even unrestored. Can't wait to get my hands on it

I live in the Arizona desert, old western town of Tucson.. Anno 2012, June at hight noon, the 4000 rode into town, marred in dust and neglect, yet took a shoot out with the mighty silvery and smooth Marantz 2285B. A new sheriff emerged, and the 2285B had to be sold.

From then on it was only Sansui. Why ? Because of the stout power supplies, the presence, the separation. The 4000 started it all.

Haha, I hear you. My amp/receiver in my teenager years was a 5000x. It had these same spring-clip connectors (as on the 4000) and at the time I did not consider this a smart solution (just flimsy and annoying to use).



But only (much,much) later I discovered that the binding post solutions used before were far from ideal.
They could very simply cause a short in the speaker cables, with disaster as outcome.
Compared the "new" spring clip solution was a step up in ease-of-use and much more fool-proof. And as I remember, back then we mostly used speaker cables that we now consider very thin, so no problem there.
With that in mind; actually a very smart innovation.. at the time

Sansui later on also used an updated version of this ancient "screw/clamp" binding posts. I still prefer the spring-clip solution above these:



The binding post system of the AU-x17 era seems te be a evolutional version of the spring clip connectors mentioned in the test pages.
More sturdy, but still not suited for use with thick(er) cables.
