Sansui 4000

Just informational but from time to time some of you have asked if my Sansui 4000 wood case is custom made. It is stock Sansui which apparently made very few of them. I've only seen three in 40 years. There is a beautiful one on that auction site right now. It is not one of mine. The shipping charges are a bit over the top but seller give alternatives. The 4000, especially in one of those cases is among my very favorites.

I have one that has the same grill on top. It's a great unit. The power and warmth was quite a suprise. Mine has the "EP" sticker which designates that it was sold on and Army Base PX. Does yours? Maybe that's why the grill is different, Bob

I have two of them and neither has an "EP" sticker. One of mine was bought new in 1972 when I was in the States.

there's a 7000 local for $5. saw it last weekend at garage sale, was still there yesterday. it has the same nice wood case though veneer is peeled and receiver has other issues like jacks in back are bent, couple speaker wire tabs broken, labels missing on front. i really like the real wood case though as opposed to the vinyl grained of the 7070 i had. naturally i would have snatched it right up, but is it worth $5 even in that condition?

Thanks for the heads up archie. I'm gonna keep an eye on that 4000. I love the look of that case :thmbsp:

The case alone would be worth a lot more than $5.00 to me at least. But if the veneer is peeling I would have second thoughts, even for $5.00. Unless you could re-veneer it cheaply.
