Sansui 4000

Hi, my first post. New to audio as well, looking to buy my first receiver. I only have a turntable so far.

Anyway, looking at a Sansui 4000, price is $225, which seems high to me based on my research. Thoughts? Never been serviced, one owner, so he says.

What are you looking for in a receiver?

If you want a vintage look, there is a similar looking Sansui 1000x on your Craigslist for $150. There is also a silver faced Pioneer for $100.

If you are willing to get black faced gear, there are several on your Craigslist that are even cheaper.

You'll have to pay for what you want, but there's no need to pay extra for something you don't care about.

The 4000 is a nice unit. Asking price is high but location, condition and competition may support the cost.

Spin vinyl is right. I've been collecting for 20 years and finally am making it a priority. I'm also looking for speakers, looking at Altec Madrid (872A) this week, some others as well.

You can buy an adapter to go from 1/8" plug (your headphone plug on the phone) to RCA and plug into the "aux" inputs on the amp.

Works like a charm.

I love my 4000 and wouldn't let it go for anywhere near $225. If that one works as good a sit looks, it's worth every penny. In fact, thinking about picking it up myself as a backup...
