Sansui 5000 with 4 ohm speakers

Have a neighbor that has a Sansui 5000. He wants to run a set of 4 ohm car speakers on it for his garage. Hifiengine only has a manual for the 5000X. Does anyone know if the 5000 can handle a 4 ohm load? To make matters worse, it's got the original suspect boards in it. Is he just asking for trouble running it hotter with the 4 ohm load? :scratch2:

I wouldn't run it without modifying the bias diodes so it doesn't burn the garage down.

Designed to run up to three sets of speakers, I'd say it would live with a 4 ohm load. Still kicking after all these years, should last a few more. Shame to see a 5000 relegated to the garage though.

That 4 ohm rating is likely very generous. Most car speakers are gonna be in the 2 ohm range. No way I'd run that. A decent set of speakers can be had for 10-15 dollars. Hell, I've got some I'd give away.

Not doable nor recommended. 8 ohm best.

I wouldn't do it. I have a G-7700 that hates four ohms. It will run very hot then into protect mode. I wouldn't try this with a 5000 however 8 ohms - yes, all day long.

What about 6 ohm?

Similar situation. I've got a 2000X feeding my Technics SB-6000A which are rated at 6ohm. 2000x spec sheet says it can run 4-16 ohm speakers but I'm a little suspect. This is a temporary setup until I get a bigger amp to run the 6000A's. Just want to make sure I'm not going to fry anything.
