Sansui 5000A Left Channel Distortion

Hi all, I am totally new to both Audio Karma and vintage audio in general. I picked up a Sansui 5000A recently as a better means of listen to music than my home theater. When i fired it up i almost immediately had issues with the left channel being very distorted...even at low volume levels. If the balance is to the left its mostly distortion, and to the right is clear. I took it into my local shop and they went through it and replaced lights, cleaned it up, and tested it thoroughly. My understanding is that they play these things for hours on various inputs to make sure everything is good to go. It gave them no issues in the shop but at home i have problems. The shop felt it was the input selector causing the issue and that if i moved it back and forth several times that would clean things up. Sadly, that hasn't resolved the problem.They are reputable and knowledgable folks so i have no reason to believe they missed something during both inspections (its been in twice). I am using it on the AUX channel and connecting either a laptop or iPhone to that input but i have tried a CD player as well. The speakers are Klipsch R-51M bookshelves and i had a set of late 90's Infinity Reference Sixes I used with it and had the exact same issue. Here is what i have tried so far:


Two different sets of speakers
Two different sets of speaker wire
Multiple RCA cables
Multiple input sources though ive only used the AUX since i dont have a turn table or reel to reel
Swaping left and right speakers
Switching between channels A/B/C but all behave exactly the same
Checked fuses. They are fine. The shop confirmed that as well.
Adjusting the screw on that back that limits the volume
Playing with all of the various buttons and dials to see if they changed anything.
Taking it to the pros...twice...and they had no problems with it
Googled, and googled, and goolged, and googled :)

I am at a loss and wondering if there is something very simple i am goofing up here. Any input you guys can provide would be a huge help. Thanks in advance!

Try using one (or both, one at a time) of the tape monitor inputs. Then, depress the push button on the front. If that works, the problem may be the selector switch.
 
Thank you for the response, Rick. I tried using the tape monitor inputs with limited success on both A and B. They are slightly clearer than the AUX but i definitely still have significant left channel distortion :(
 
Don't know what to tell you at this point. Other than taking it to a different tech, and standing there watching (and listening) while it's tested.

It may be something as simple as a loose wire. Might explain why it worked for your tech. Hopefully, someone with more knowledge will chime in.

I have a Sansui 5000a and it's a sweet sounding receiver, when working properly. Good luck finding and fixing the problem.
