Sansui 5000a - Reasonable Price?

I have a chance to buy what looks like a mint-condition, fully functioning Sansui 5000a receiver. Price would be $175, which seems perhaps a little steep to me since it has not been updated or worked on at all. Does anyone know if there is a way to tell if it has the 1040 amp boards with fire issues just by looking at serial number? The SN is 220061030, which looks like a June 1970 manufacture date after some cursory research.

It's worth what your willing to pay, I found one a few weeks ago at GW in near pristine condition and it is currently working fine. With that said it will still be getting a complete recap since being 46 years old it is a electrical time bomb. I don't know after what serial number they switched to the F6013 amp boards but I lucked out and mine has them. If you can do the work your self you could have a excellent receiver for three bills. Also you will want to replace the 2sc498 transistors which are prone to be noisy. Even as is mine sounds great and should improve after it's refurb is done. Now I just need to get the ambition to get started on it, having to make a living interferes with these projects unfortunately. To sum up if you have 175.00 to put into a project you could do much worse than this Sansui..

Thanks for the input. Apparently one of the 1040 boards has already been replaced with a new one along with some other updates. I think I may go for it. It'll give me something to do at least.
