Sansui 5000a Removing Faceplate Balance Nut

I am trying to remove the faceplate for a Sansui 5000a. I have removed all of the clover washers / locks, but my balance knob seems to have another type of flat nut on it. I havent seen this in any videos or other posts.

Can anyone confirm that is actually a nut? Is there a tool to remove it (similar to the clover buts), or do I just need to use needlenose pliers (you can see i have already scratched it a little).

Thanks for any help / direction.

Just to close on this if anyone is looking in the future. These are nuts (there are two). I was able to get out with a flat wrench between 9/16th and 10/16th in size.
