Sansui 5000x back from the dead

Last summer I picked this beauty up. Unfortunately, it had a busted F-6013 driver board and no amount of monkeying would bring it back. Fortunately, AK member bryana had his own 5000a unit that bit the dust and he was able to donate his good, working F-6013 board! So, off to avionic's this went, a few hours and peanuts later and this is what I got back:

I'd like to thank bryana for donating the board, shuttling this thing around, and for pestering avionic for me. I'd like to thank avionic for the incredible job. Sorry that I bugged you so many times and was so impatient. I'd also like to thank kretinus and el34guy for shuttling this and other units back and for to Dave for me.

I never heard this before the recap as it was broken from the get-go but it sounds KILLER now. This pushes my KG-4's quite nicely and I'm able to play music loud without it being distorted or annoying. This thing shakes the walls and has more to give. This is my first "real" unit (fully functional) and I couldn't be happier. I think this calls for a dancing banana.

5000x porn. Got to love it. Looks good. Wish I would have had time to play it. ENJOY! Hope its everything you hoped it would be.

Very nice.Glad you got it going.I have a 2000x that I absolutely love.I made the mistake of passing on a near mint 5000x a couple of years ago at a SA.They wanted $49.99.At the time I didn't have $50 on me and figured I had enough receivers. It wasn't until I got my $10 2000x that I realized how nice these early Sansuis sound.Very nice tuner section also.

Good looker! And it practically oozes quality. Reminds me of the dozens of 5000X's that I serviced back in the day...

thing i wonder how on earth did you get the metal faceplate so clean? i tried polishing up mine with brasso. looks lot better than when i bought it but dang.

I used a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser to do the initial scrub/clean, then used Turtle Wax car polish on the plate/knobs. It has a few dings/scars that aren't showing up in the pics, but is in pretty nice shape overall. It sounds even better than it looks.

Yay!
Mine doesn't look anywhere near that good.
It's waiting for a preamp transistor.
Was given to me broke-never heard it.
I hear they sound quite nice.

Wow, it looks brand new--but of course it's better than brand new, it's a classic Sansui brought back to life in a big way. It looks like both you and Avionic did a great job. Congrats!

Dave did all the work, I just paid him.:D

I played "Bridge Over Troubled Water" last night and it just filled up the room. This thing has incredible sound.
