Hello all
I just recapped my Sansui 5000X and at the end noticed a massive channel unbalance. The right channel is outputting about 10-20V (peak-to-trough: when the left channel was at -20 to 20, the right was at - 10 to 10 using a 1khz sine) less than the left channel. I hadn't noticed because I'd recently been using the preamp to drive a head amp.
The issue is definitely in the power-amp and not the pre-amp. When adjusting the output and biasing, I was able to quantify the mismatch on the scope.
Can I just bring the left channel output level down to compensate (this is in the service manual, but is suggested for clipping, not for unbalanced output)? I did notice that when the left channel clips, it clips flat, when the right channel clips, it is not a flat clip, but is more sloped (this clipping is a part of the service manual adjustment of the output level -- I apologize if I'm not being clear, i need to sleep....)
Is there a usual suspect to go after here?
By the by, the recapping made a night and day difference in both channels, it sounds great! Unfortunately, one is a lot louder than the other.
Thanks in advance!
