Hello. I'm a total newbie who picked up a Sansui 5050 yesterday for a decently low price. Seller said the receive works great but has "occasional issues with the right channel cutting out." I took a shot hoping it would be some dirty controls that could be cleaned up with deoxit. Didn't fix it with one round of cleaning.
i talked to the guy a bit more about the issue because since I've hooked it up I get full sound out of the left channel and virtually none out of the right when plugged into both A and B speaker jack. There are some pops and static sounds intermittently. When I set the balance all the way to the right and crank the volume all the way I can faintly hear some music from the right channel. Now the Seller tells me that the “occasional” issue is more like long periods where the right channel won’t work and then it’ll suddenly kick in and work for a while. Still hasn’t worked for me. He also said that if you plug in through the mic jack both speakers work. I did verify with a mic sound comes from both channels. The right still has a bit of static thru the mic input.
Any thoughts on where I should start? Does that sound like a relay issue? I'm very new to stereo receivers. I've done some minimal work rehabbing a reel to reel player but it's electronics were really in great shape so mostly clearing, deoxit-ing,etc. I've attached some pics here for anyone to take a look. The unit also reeks of cigarette smoke. That's a whole other issue though. Right now just trying to get that right channel back on and I'll be feeling pretty good with my purchase. Thanks for any help and please go easy on me. I'm probably in over my head.
