Sansui 5500 - Crackling noise and static at lower volume

Hello, I am definitely a Hi-Fi newb... I just know that my Sansui sounds great. I am very sad, as recently I started noticing fuzz and a crackling distortion on the right channel. Sometimes it is intermittent on both L and R channels at lower volumes. If I crank the volume to about half at the 12'oclock point I can hear a very noticeable fuzz feedback, the type you hear on VHS tapes when there's no sound. Any suggestions what it could be? I will be getting it repaired at some point but wanted an idea of what I'm faced with. This is the Sansui 5500, not the QRX-5500.

random crackling noises and a kind of "wind" noise mixed with it, usually to point to small signal transistors... Dirty can do noises too, so make sure to clean all the controls and switches, specially those that you don't use very often. At least move them several times to clean the contacts.

I see you unit has a preamp OUT and a power amp input. If you could separate the signal in 2, you could isolate the origin of the noise (sending your "Pre OUT" to a second amplifier)
