Sansui 555a - left channel is weaker

Hi!
I have the impression that the right channel plays harder than the left. I measured the voltage at the headphone output and it turned out that the right channel has 332mV and left 321mV. These values shouldn't be equal? Can I somehow adjust that?

Hi,

The difference you measured between the two channels is 11mv in approx 325mv, or 3.4%. This is well within the typical tracking accuracy of a volume pot of the era.

There is nothing that can be easily done to make the left and right channel exactly equal, and the tracking will vary with the rotation of the volume pot.

What exactly are you measuring , and with what. If it's DC, then you are looking at leakage through output coupling caps, which has nothing to do with volume.(and is pretty normal for a cap coupled amp without speakers connected). If it is with ACvoltmeter and Sinewave input, then you should check frequency extremes (50 hZ and 5000 hZ should suffice). I would try reversing speaker leads, then reversing input leads and see if it still seems unbalanced the same direction (If problem in amp, should change over to other side. If you are only using headphones, you can't easily reverse connections.

Yes, I measured DC at the headphone output and and then at the speakers output: with load it was about 16mV, without load about 325mV. But if it isn't correlating with the matter, my mistake, sorry:)
When it comes to checking, I listen to music directly from my laptop, and then plug the laptop into aux in my sansui 555a and listen to the same music through the headphone output. In this way I can hear minimum differences and I think that in the amplifier left channel plays a little bit weaker.
If I wanted to physically measure the differences in both channels, then I must have an oscilloscope and check frequency extremes?
 
Scope is nice, but AC VTVM would be valid. Sine wave input would be more accurate. Sometimes volume differences are gain related, or can be frequency related (a channel with high frequency or low frequency roll off will sound weaker ...or one which accentuates bass or treble will sound stronger....)
There are programs to use your laptop as a signal generator.
Old cassette deck with meters in record mode could be used to monitor levels.
