Sansui 661 Recap/Parts List Thread

I've got a 661 I'm going to be breathing some life into. After having successfully restored a 535 and 737 (thanks to help from everyone over in the Pioneer forum) my next project is going to be this 661. There isn't anything wrong with it, but all parts are original and the noise floor is pretty high. Part of which I'm assuming can be attributed to the original 2sa726's in the driver board that I've learned are quite problematic.

Currently I have gone through and cross referenced everything in the unit against the information in the service manual and marked down incongruities accordingly. I'll be ordering caps that match what was in the unit, not what was in the SM. Thanks to the giant Sansui transistor thread I have gotten quite a few of the transistor replacements figured out as well, but not all of them. I'm not sure which, if any, transistors I should leave alone. Wasn't going to touch the outputs, but what about the two metal can round ones on the driver board (2sc281) are there suitable replacements or do I even need to replace? Any other anomalies I should leave alone?

And there doesn't seem to be as much info out there for diode replacements either. It seems to be pretty common practice on the Pioneer receivers to replace diodes on the power board, but I haven't found much info as to what would be good replacements for the ones in the 661. Are the power board diodes something I don't need to worry about with this Sansui?

Lastly, what caps would you recommend for use as the filter caps? I was going to use Nichicon KG series, but I haven't ever worked with Snap in Caps before and that's all the KG series has it looks like.

Here's my current, incomplete, BOM. Red text are Parts I haven't found suitable replacements for yet. Otherwise the part #'s and capacitors values are for what is in the unit followed by Mouser's replacement #.

I would suggest to change the ecaps first, unless it is a PITA to take apart and put back together again. See what that does then if no improvement in the noise, then progress with the bjt replacements.
Looks like you have done a decent job of using Nich UKL and UPW where needed. I have noit gone over everything.
To make the best use of snap in ecaps, it is best to use a pcb. the leads are short so difficult to solder wire to them.

Thanks for giving it a quick look. When you say best to use a pcb for the snap-ins, do you mean mount them to a separate smaller circuit board than the board they're already on and then attach that board to the power supply pcb. In this unit the filters are radial caps mounted on with the through hole style.

Okay I am not sure of the dimensions of the original ecaps, if they are pcb mount then match the pin spacings. snap in ecaps sometimes have multiple pins, some are just for mechanical strength and have no electrical function.

Ok thanks, to make sure I'm understanding correctly: if I get snap ins with equal pin spacing them I'll be able to put its little nub into the pcb and solder as normal? Snap ins are just like short stubby leads?

Germanium diodes.. I have no clue where to get vetted legit replacements . Lots of them on ebay from china. Buyer beware.

In the unit these diodes (marked as the 10DC-1's in the SM) seemed to be marked I(1?)R4B. Are those any different?

Thanks for all the knowledge!
Yes they are different .dual diodes one is common anode and the other is common cathode Just use two 1N4007's in the correct orientation .

To get it through my dummy brain. A total of 8 diodes, two leads per hole?

Might be able to find legit ones on ebay TO-1 case style The emitter, base and collector are isolated from the metal case. If there not bad I wouldn't mess with them. These are for bias thermal tracking.

One 10DC1/10DC1R has three leads anode-cathode-anode or cathode-anode-cathode. Each 10DC1/10DC1R is replaced with two 1N4007's . The center pin will have two leads in the same hole either common anode or common cathode. So yes you will require 8 each 1N4007.

Just have to pay close attention to the polarity of the diodes.
