Sansui 7000FM Muting Question

Hey, so I have a Sansui 7000 here want wanted to know what the normal behavior of the FM muting is with this unit, basically this one seems to not mute without an antenna, once an antenna is added FM muting works as it should, muting between stations. I've tried adjusting the muting threshold pot at the rear but it only affects how it mutes with an antenna. Don't have much experience with this model so I was wondering if that behavior is normal or not. FM stereo works as expected.

my fm muting works with just a short coax connector but no real antenna attached. there is also the muting button on the left side which just decreases the volume (like if you get a call and want to cut the volume quick)

This one works with even an inch of wire as antenna, but without any antenna it seems like there's not enough ambient FM noise to trigger the muting.

probably depends on how good your fm signals are at your location. If it works with a proper antenna then call it good.

Thanks, that's pretty much where I was at! I live about 30 miles from the nearest major city, and the closest station is 10 miles away and not much stray RF makes it into my workspace.

Correct, and this is how it is supposed work, the tuner is designed to operate with an antenna.
