Sansui 7070 any good?

It may just need to be cleaned and have the fuse resistors on the driver board replaced.

Yeah the fusible resistors are the biggest problem with that series. I had an 8080 for a while. I liked it soundwise but was never a fan of the looks. I replaced some resistors and it worked for a while then quit again. I sold it after that.

They definitely have a good low end to them. Some might say boomy.

Nice find.
...worth looking inside to see if it's messed up...
If not able to repair...at least you got some parts...

I've owned several Sansui's in the past (7070, 8080, 9090db, 990db). The 7070 is a keeper IMO, a great piece to have as it sounds the same as its larger siblings to my ears.

Yes, the 7070 is a very well regarded receiver. That you dumpster picked it for free makes it an exceptionally good find, and if it works as it sits, even better still. If it needs work it's certainly worth getting done, considering you are zero out of pocket on it so far.

Mine paired with EPI 100s gob-smacks me every time I listen. It's very close to my 9090. As others have said the fuse resistors on the driver boards are likely bad. When Deoxit cleaning, be sure to hit the phono 1/2 switch good as it's a common cause of channel dropouts.

Should've known, dead, lol. Seems like all lights work. Turns on with first relay click, then a second click in a couple secs. Connected cassette deck and can't hear anything. Tuner tuned into something but still no sound. Power meters don't move. They do slightly jump on the second relay click at powerup.

You cleaned the inside and did a Deoxit treatment beforehand right?
Nah I'm pretty sure that's why it was just tossed out like that. Can I use the same deoxit that I used on an electrical panel install? When I get to feeling better, I'll open it up and clean it.

Read the sticky threads on top of this sub-forum. You really shouldn't be powering up a dumpster find, especially a gem of a find such as this, without doing several things first. You are risking further damage.

The second relay click, is the speakers turning off from a problem. Likely too high of a DC-Offset issue. Also the fusible resistors on the F-2624 driver board may have never been replaced, and they ALL need replaced no matter what.

Also note the input impedance resistors on the driver board are 10K instead of 1k. The 10k resistors are used in units without Main-in/Pre-out jumpers.

You can use any F-2624 as long as you use the correct input resistors.
