Sansui 7070 vs. Marantz 2270

Have a student of mine who is developing and interest in vintage equipment. Wanted my opinion on merits of Sansui receivers and Marantz. I own and love my Sansui 6060 and 7070 but know nothing on the Marantz sound. Any help is appreciated...

Hey Willowrun,

I kinda collected Marantz for awhile. The Marantz receiver's sound is warmer and a little to full bodied with certain speakers. This tends to hide some of the delicate nuances of certain types of music. But I still like the sound. I also have a Sansui 8080db that is one of my favorites. It seems to be more neutral and clearer in the bottom end.

You'll have to hear the differences for yourself.

Have fun!

Well I'd say the 7070 is really a closer to par with a 2250 (if memory serves) as far as output and features go. It could get a bit nit-picky, but if you're looking more of a general comparison of the marques, that would be a bit easier.

Hopefully I won't regret putting it that way. ;)

First I think showing AKer's what part of the country you live in will help alot. then maybe some guy's could bring some stuff for you friend to try. I have 2 2270's, one of witch I use the pre outs as suggested by many AKer's to a SAE power amp to run my very demanding Martin Logans, I'm still playing with amps friends bring over all are a little differant, very very sutal sound changes, high lights one area not another, I'm sorry I'm not a Sansui guy have not heard those units, if ya'll live in a good size town, city, then I'm sure some of us could help!! :thmbsp:  :music:

Senergy, Senergy, all makes a huge differance!

Any one in Tucson PM me with an amp to play with and mine to you, I can't get into the Preamp stuff till I get a handle on the Amp sound first!

Peace Craig
