Sansui 7070

tinnitus1.0

New Member
Hi a newbie here. Just picked up a Sansui 7070 off craigslist after researching receivers on Audiokarma.org.
The 7070 sounds awesome. I was wondering if I should take it in and update anything. Sounds great to me..
The case is "vinyl wood" I thought I might try my hand at applying real wood veneer to it after a while..

Thanks,

John

Welcome to Audiokarma.

Great receiver you picked up. There are some fuse resistors on the driver board that drift out of spec with time, and can prevent the receiver from coming out of protection. Easy board to work on.

If you have no idea when it was last serviced, I would recommend getting checked out, cleaned, and serviced. That's exactly what I'm doing with my Harman/Kardon Citation 19 amp and preamp, and my McIntosh MA-5100. Make sure you find a reputable tech who has worked on Sansuis to do the work. Putting in your location in the top right would help.

If any AK members live near you, they can recommend someone to you. :music:

If you plan on keeping it then yes, put the effort of finding a good tech and coming out the pocket a bit. Recap and all the rest that comes along with it. Nice find and good luck with whatever you end up doing.

What do these fuse resistors look like? Do they look like regular resistors?

Yep, some are light brown, some are green, some are light blue, often have a non-shiny finish. Usually but not always they are identified as fuse resistors on the schematic. Most people change them for same value and wattage rating metal film (non-fusable) replacements.

Someone will know how many, and where they are, on a Sansui 7070 - if that is what you are enquiring about...

Useful thread (with many pictures)
