Sansui 771

The Sansui 771/881 use the same Driver Circuit Board (PN: F-2436)

I am afraid the above information is incorrect: It is the 661 and 771 which both use the same driver circuit board (F-1499A). The 881 uses board F-2436. F-2436 is notably different (no Zener to ground in the +rail, no bootstrap capacitor). The 661 and 771 sound truly superb; the 881 might or might not sound different.

I can't comment on which other Sansui amps and receivers use similar driver circuits. I know that Kenwood recycled the same power amp board for a lot of different amps over the years (e.g. late TK-400, TK-80U, KA-2500 and KR-100), using both germanium and silicon transistors as drivers in subsequent years.

I do stand corrected on the 771/881 using the same driver board. The 881 uses the F2436 board common with the 9090/8080 (F-2436). The QRX6001/7001 use the F2436/2436A driver boards. I was only pointing out the similarities in design lending itself to common audio characteristics of these Sansui's. I have examined the F2436 drivers from the QRX 6001/7001 and have yet to find any difference in the ones for the 8080/9090. They appear identical and I am in the process of trying to convert a 881 driver board to use in a 9090 as a "proof of concept". The f-2436 drivers boards for the 9090/8080 are getting very hard to find in usable condition.

I've posted many times about what a great receiver the 771 is. The tuner is OK. The sound is fabulous. Built like a tank as well. Real glass too.

I got mine while in high school. $225 in 1975-76 at MusiCraft - Villa Park, IL.

Old thread. I bought my 771 3 months ago. Also bought a Sansui AU-555a integrated amp and someone gave me an H-K 730 Twin-Power. I already had a Yamaha 1020.

Kasper from Stereo Rehab went through my Yamaha 1020 and the H-K 730. He had a look at the 555a and told me it was fine to use as-is and not to spend any money on it.

I've tried all these with my Cambridge streamer and a pair of KEF 103.3 Reference hooked to Speaker A and a Martin-Logan 6" downfiring active sub hooked to Speaker B. With both speakers "on", this is a nice set-up in my "parlor". It's the room in our 110 year-old house that we've made nice, then never used.

The 771 has the best sound of the group. I now spend A LOT of time in this room. What a great receiver! Get one if you can find it.
