Sansui 881 - cleaning pots and switches

Mildabrasion

New Member
Is it safe to use Deoxit D5 on all of the pots and switches on the front of my Sandui 881? Sorry if this is an ignorant question.

Please let me know if there is a more appropriate product for specific applications.

TIA

I use Deoxit D5 on the switches and F5 on the Pots....I had used D5 on a volume control and had problems with it..
.....while the receiver was playing, the volume would go loud and sometimes revert back to normal...I'm a lot more careful using the D5 now. and use more sparingly.

Most of the time Deoxit is fine for potentiometers . But, sometimes it is not . How do you know when and when not ? I don’t know. I did have an Italian pot delaminate the carbon from Deoxit. I now prefer to use F5 on control pots especially on vintage gear that Parts are no longer readily available.

You can't use deoxit on Italian Pots, use olive oil instead.

Would it be safe to use an isopropyl alcohol contact cleaner (99+%) on something really dirty, and then give them a shot of D5 or F5?

Thanks

You can use what ever you want only if you disassembly potentiometer or switch and then after cleaning you will flush/clean it with isoprophanol
