I just got my hands on a Sansui 881 and I am looking for suggestions to upgrade my speakers. I currently have Polk RT15is. I am looking for bookshelf speakers that are under $500 for a smaller living room. I like to listen to a lot of ambient music, but I also play some jazz. I don't often crank the music up too loudly so something that can handle being played quietly would be preferred. Thanks for your suggestions! I am open to new or vintage speakers.

Your Polks will do just fine with the 881. When I had my 881, I listened to them with a pair of Klipsch Epic CF3 speakers which was an awesome pairing. I no longer own the CF3 pair but I miss them! They would definitely be an upgrade over the Polks, but they're not bookshelf.

Wow - the Sansui 881 was my first receiver. I bought it in 1975, and paired it with 4 Larger Advents, stacked and wired in series. I loved that system. The only reason I traded my Sansui in was because three years later, I bought a Yamaha B-2, T-2, and C2 (later traded for a C2x). You have yourself one fantastic receiver. Congratulations!
