Sansui Alpha XR or DR ?

Hello guys,

I recently bought an Alpha 607XR and impressed by it's Dynamic and Tube like sound. I already own 707x (D 11 ii), 907x, D707 (819) and 666. Only 707x has been recapped by my own hands. I have got another opportunity to get a Alpha 607DR. I was wondering if DR would perform differently as 707x did in A B testing. I have got a feeling that early Alphas were most accurate machines while later were warm and tube like.

Help me out Sansui Gurus ...
Will it be a wise decision to get another Alpha i.e. 607DR ?

I don think it will be a huge difference between them both as they're similar in spec and made around the same time period.
Personally I wouldn't buy it but I would sell the XR and go for the big boy in it's series or one of the top Alphas :dunno: that's just my two cent what I would do. Good luck

Thanks for input. Which are those TOP aphas ? Coz i also have the opportunity to get Apha 907 (180wpc). Simple 907 .. no suffix.

Yes. It's the same one i was looking at. My ultimate dream was to acquire 907MR or NRA. That's why i didn't purchase this 907. Though it's 180wpc tempted me but i stopped due to the fact that it's an Earlier alpha and won't sound right due to it's age. Recapping costs a lot for these machines as i don't do compromises during recapping process. So, is it a better idea to wait for 907MR/NRA or getting plain alpha 907 right away.?

A decision between a 907MR and a 907NRA could depend very much on your speakers and source. The MR sounds more detailed and resolving while the NRA sounds more polished and clean. If you have speakers that could be called bright or hard then the MR might be too much for them, if you have speakers that are a bit softer and easier on the ears then the NRA might make a less exciting than desired combination with them. Likewise I would suggest that the NRA would work better than the MR with digital sources, and the MR would probably mate better with vinyl than the NRA (although I have to admit I did not test that opinion out when I had the units to hand).

For example, a few years ago I leant my 907NRA to a friend who had Sony ES series floorstanders (the ones with 3 tweeters) and he loved it, ended up buying it off me in fact. But trying to listen to the 907MR on those same speakers was a very unpleasant experience. Hard, shrill and etched. As much fun as having an angry little animal with sharp claws shoved into each ear.

So keep this in mind when looking for 907s to buy, while they sound fairly similar in general they don't all sound the same and keeping the rest of your system in mind when buying something new is always a good idea.
 
A few weeks ago I undertook the journey to audition the Alpha series.
Thanks to the advice of expert Sansuiphiles, I purchased an Alpha 607XR.
Even though the connectors and switches need cleaning, my first listenings proved to be beyond my expectations.
I'll talk about this later in the thread I started on this subject.
This little monster has more than one trick up its sleeve. It's definitely a keeper.
I will gladly add to my HiFi gears a Sansui - A 07 Anniversary, an AU-11000 and an AU-20000.
