Sansui AU-α907KX new owner question :)

Good morning Sansui fans,

I had a few Sansui amplifiers before - AU-X501, then 701 and now I'm a happy new owner of AU-α907KX and it sounds fantastic with my Infinity Kappa 8.2 :)

I'm just a bit confused with a few buttons, I was not familiar with and I would kindly ask you if my assumptions are right:

1. For my speakers "Turnover" at 75 kHz is the preferable option
2. When "Tone" is off the amplifier works in the same mode as "Source direct" at my AU-X 701
3. When "Source power direct" switch is on the pre-amp section is off, meaning is of no use, as I use it only with turntable without pre-amp

Thanks a lot!

You seem to have made 3 statements - but haven't really asked a question as such.

Ok - but the amplifier doesn't have tone control turnover frequency selection. (and not 75Khz, maybe 7.5Khz or 750Hz?)

When "Tone" is off the amplifier works in the same mode as "Source direct" at my AU-X 701
I haven't studied the schematic for exact confirmation of this, but this is common in Sansui amplifiers.

3. When "Source power direct" switch is on the pre-amp section is off, meaning is of no use, as I use it only with turntable without pre-amp
Correct, a minimised signal path is used for sources connected to the appropriate input sockets.

Thanks a lot for your answer anyway! :)
True, I didn't ask any questions - just wanted to make sure my assumptions were correct.
I guess only asking questions might be a bit boring and rude :))))

You're absolutely right, sorry - the button "Turnover" has two options: 75 Hz or 150Hz.

Great, thanks - then I'll leave it OFF

Thanks again for confirming, then I'll leave it on until I have a turntable with pre-amp and XLR output :)

I am sorry, I obviously didn't look hard enough for the 'Turnover' switch - so thought there wasn't one. ;)

I can see it now after finding a better picture - third button from the left. ;)

Congrats on that great amp. I don't see many of those here. Always wondered why the 907KX doesn't get more attention. It is a really nice piece and a great value. Seems that some of the other Alpha's get most of the attention. I believe that KX platform is where Sansui settled into its final, evolved stride to the NRA. Enjoy!

Exactly And as I didn't have it before on either of my previous amps it confused me a bit but I think 75Hz should be a right choice.

On the other hand, logically thinking, the "Turnover" switch shouldn't make any difference anyway, as long as "Tone" switch is off....

Thanks a lot indeed!

Frankly saying I'm still getting used to it's sound - it's way brighter then 701 and at the beginning I wasn't quite impressed when listening to "Child In Time" but then "So far away" really made me cry of excitement
I guess I'll play around with middle and highs on the speakers themselves but this mode without "Tone" engaged seems to be the right one. On the 701 "Source direct" was also my favorite one.

The only concern I have - it's Japanese version and the seller sold me also a power transformer to 110V, though on the back side 100V are specified.
It works but I'm not sure if +10V are critical and if I need to buy 100V transformer.

Any suggestions? :)

Yep, that's what I've got - only I have the 1.5Kw version. :)
Thanks, I thought with nominal 400W the one with 500W should be enough and the other reason was more trivial - that's the only one I could find here in Germany, so I don't have to order from UK and pay taxes and delivery :D

Gorgeous amp! congratulations I've never seen one before. At 160w into 8ohms it's a powerhouse too.

Myself I wouldn't get less than a 1kW stepup/down
Thank you very much! Yes, it has enough "juice" and considering that I mainly use a loudness mode, I haven't turned more than 30 dB yet :)
As for the transformer - you're probably right, but since I already bought a 500W one, I'll give it a try and if I have a problem with it, I'll order a 1kW one.

The factory is only 10 miles from me - so I collected mine in person.
You're a lucky one! :p I spent more than 2 hours trying to find a decent one locally, but apart from the 500W one I found in Poland (!), the only one you can buy was a small transformer from Japan via eBay for €180. The UK version seems much more robust by comparison :)

Do you keep the transformer always on and only use a Sansui on/off switch?

No, I switch both off when not in use, There will be current flow in the transformer with it connected to power, albeit small, as there is no on/off switch on the transformer.

Thanks! I was just thinking, maybe I could use power cord extension with a separate switch on every socket.
That way, I wouldn't have to unplug it every time :)

I once bought this off amazon from a German company called Hama - it's not the typical 5cent crap. I also like it, that there is an easy possibility to nail or screw it on a wall.
