Sansui AU-111 repro front panel picture for DB-7, per request

A while back in another thread, I'd mentioned I procured a reproduction front panel for an AU-111. @DB-7 had requested a picture of it, and I just managed to dig it out of storage so figured I'd post it now.

These were made as part of a small batch, spearheaded by another AU-111 owner who offered them to other interested parties a few years ago. I bought one at the time even though the factory panel on mine was still decent. Note a couple of details:

First, the lettering is all laser engraved. It was left "raw", so when I received the panel I very carefully "filled" all the engraving with Testors model enamel, cleaning any outside the engraving with proper thinner. The surface is matte black anodized aluminum. To add a little visual flair, I filled the model number and name in with green, as a nod to the later AU-919/X1 that had some green lettering on the panel. The red "jewel" power indicator is just the inner end of an old lite-brite peg, with the large end cut off flush at the rear. It fit perfectly as is.

As to the logo, that is just one of numerous choices I may ultimately install. I can reuse the original, which is the "squat" version of the logo, as it has holes machined for the pegs.

The logo seen in the picture is a recent acquisition from Audio Tags of Iowa (who I simply cannot recommend highly enough, he does superlative work), and is a reproduction of the logo used only on the ES series speakers sold by Sansui in Europe in the 70's. I really like the styling of that particular script, so may use it, or may use something else entirely. Thankfully, I have multiple options on hand. Note also that the "edging" on the panel would need to be reused from the original, as Front Panel Express couldn't replace those pieces, which are just anodized aluminum extrusions. photostudio_1733123160707.jpg

That is outstanding!
Beautiful workmanship from start to finish.
All the lettering being engraved is amazing. The tedious work, along with the pride and dedication of Sansui enthusiasts really shows with this work of art.

Thank you for posting the picture.

Yes, at the time I was suitably impressed with his effort. He did all the digital artwork and layout, meticulously verifying every dimension. He needed a new panel for his own amp, and had a short run made (6 total, I believe) selling the extras. I figured it was a one time shot, so bought one without any further consideration. Eventually I'll install it on my AU-111 and store the original to preserve it.

I'm planning to do a similar project for my SP-220/Q-3535 combo, but will be restyling those a bit. All changes will be reversible back to the original panels and knobs, and my replacements will be tastefully updated. I'm getting both units operationally solid before taking that on, however.
