Sansui AU-517 VERY quiet output in left channel

Hi!
I just got a Sansui AU-517 on the cheap-ish, from the owner who seemed like he took alright care of it and said it was working fine. This morning I was playing a record and the left channel cut out.I turned the amp off and on again, and the left channel was fine, but then cut out again after less than a minute. This happens every time I turn the amp off and on. After some experimentation with switching the left speaker to the right channel / etc it seems like just the left channel is outputting a very, very quiet signal. Either speaker sounds fine plugged into the right input.

I haven't cleaned the pots yet (was going to do that right now), but any ideas on what could be wrong?

Thanks!

Using deox (or similar), clean all the switches and controls. If it still acts up, it sounds like it could be the relay contacts.

Dirty pots/switches are high on the list as well as dry solder joints(google).
Some basic questions/things to try.

Does it happen with AUX, eg CDP or just PHONO
The amp has PRE-OUT/MAIN IN RCA's at the back so it can run with other
equipment as a pre or power. Set to either DC or cap coupled so the amp runs as
a separate, then connect an RCA cable from Left Pre Out to Right Main IN.
Likewise Right Pre out to Left main in, cables criss/crossed. If problem
stays with the left channel then its a power amp issue. Preamp and switches
if problem moves to right channel.

Tinker with some of the other switches like Tone Defeat/ON.

Also try selecting spkr A+B or maybe connecting your spkrs to B to troubleshoot
the sprkr selector.

I'll be going into the pots and switches soon and cleaning them all out with some deox-like spray I got from the hardware store. Also, @mbz, it does happen with multiple inputs (tried with both Aux and Phono-1). Also doesn't change when turning the balance knob or treble/bass controls, or switching the tone or sub-bass switches. Speaker selector switch doesn't change anything either, but I couldn't test the B speaker connectors because the clips are loose / need some minor work. Either way, A+B didn't solve anything. And I'll try the pre-out switching in the back! Thank you a bunch for the advice, super informative.

Also, an exciting update as of just now, the problem went away...
I'll be keeping a close eye on it and I'll still be cleaning the switches and everything. Thanks all.
