Greetings Audiophiles!
Started recapping today and finished the Equalizer and Power Circuit Board (F-2901). Used Nichicon UPW series for the Power Circuit side and WIMAs MKS2 for the Equalizer side except C05 and C06 (47uf 6.3V) which I used UKA (25V).
Have to say that it was not easy working on this board, had to remove 100 screws from the back side, and took me almost on hour to figure out how to put it back together since the 2 plastic bars that slightly lift the board from the chassis were not aligned properly. So the screws wood not fasten and I started getting the "sweats" again.
Cleaned the underside of the board and resoldered some cracked joints around the RCA connections. Don´t know if that was such a good idea to put the RCA connectors there but I´m sure Sansui had a reason for it.
Most of the caps were within spec and ESR was also fairly low. Measured the 2 filter caps (4700uf 50V) and the values crept up to around 5500uf for one and 5600 for the other with an ESR of less than one percent according to my Bside ESR02 Pro. I got 2 Nichicon FGs caps (4700uf 80V) (LKG1K472MESCBK). Would it be a good idea to change them? Measured the ESR on the new caps and they were very similar to the original caps. If not necessary, I can use them for another project.
I have to say that this Sansui is A JOY to listen to and my favorite - so far. Very NEUTRAL. Almost never have to use the tone controls. Has plenty of power and one of the most ergonomic layouts. The perfect size knobs in my opinion. Have it combined with it´s matching tuner (TU-5500) and they make a beautiful couple together.
