Sansui AU-5900 Nasty Snap, Crackle, Pop Noises

My integrated amp started making nasty noises yesterday. Listening to FM, at first I thought it was some electrical interference that found its way over the airwaves. About 20 minutes later it happened again. About 20 minuntes after that it was happening every 10 seconds or so . Tried playing a CD and was getting the same noise. It was sounding too nasty so I shut it down.

From what I have seen online it looks like a common issue.

Wanted to get some recommendations here before starting the repair work. Thank you! MC

Might try the sansui forum. seems a glut of similar issues and probably good news is you haven't blown the outputs (yet) but checking diodes and replacing caps etc. Quite a lot of incomplete posts on this model though read many fixed. Usual dialog of cleaning etc. beyond that not sure of transistors etc. many units were just dirty and or for sale for parts/ repair.
 
Like Binkman said, try asking in the Sansui part of the forum, this DIY section is more for building your own amps etc
