Sansui AU-717 for $250 - Fair price?

Someone here is selling a Sansui AU-717 on CL for $250. There's no picture, but here's the text of the ad, or most of it: This unit was recently checked out/cleaned by a local tech--everything is working great. Very smooth, detailed sound with plenty of headroom. Cosmetically, about a 9 out of 10--faceplate is near mint. Also includes rack handles. $250 is very firm. Local pickup/cash only. Happy to hook it up for you to check out.

If it's in the condition stated, is that a fair price?

Thanks, Cactus Bob. I'll try and give it a look. I've got a couple of nice 60wpc receivers, but they seem to strain a bit powering my KEF Reference 103.2. Great speakers, at least to me, but they are inefficient. Not that it's all about volume, of course...

The 717 has nice power. The rack handles are a big plus. Good luck :thmbsp:

Unfortunately a health issue came up with my mother-in-law, who lives about a mile from us, and I couldn't get over to see the Sansui right away. The amp is gone. Interestingly, it turns out I bought another piece of gear from the same CL seller last year! He's a musician who knows audio gear, and a decent guy, so I'm sure the AU-717 was in the condition stated. Ah well, you win some and you lose some....

Too bad on both counts. Your logistics are very good for finding another nice amp.

Yes, this town is loaded with gear. Heck, my apartment alone is loaded with gear so I can only imagine what else is out there. I'll keep an eye out for something that will do those Kefs justice. Do you happen to have a separate preamp? I see decent standalone amps from time to time.

I saw that amp and almost pounced on it, too, but really didn't need it. I'd like an AU-919 or AU-x901 or AU-x11...

I think you're right, something else will pop up eventually. Funny that I knew the guy selling it--as you know, sometimes Chicago is a big city, at other times it seems like a small town.

No separate preamp, John, I'm pretty much a mid-fi guy. Both the Sony and Kenwood receivers I've got are very nice, but sometimes I think it'd be nice to open up the KEFs a bit more with a bigger receiver or integrated amp--nothing huge, maybe something nice that's in the 80-100 wpc range (so as not to get kicked out of our building). And while I know you get better performance with separates, there's something magical about the classic stereo receivers. Maybe it's just that they look so cool. :D
