Sansui AU-717

Found a Sansui AU-717 on local CL for $50. Owner described it as being in great cosmetic condition but needed repaired. He says all the lights work and it powers on but sometimes there is no output to the speakers. Is this worth $50 in this condition? Possibly fixed with deoxit?

I've already made arrangements with the seller to pick it up tonight. Just wanted to see if $50 was an acceptable price when it possibly needs repaired.

Glad to hear it. I paid $75 for one that was a total doorstop so I'd say you did pretty well.

I wouldn't be surprised if deoxit would fix it. If the output only works sometimes then that to me indicates a dirty pot. If something was busted it would either not work or work, not sometimes work.

Research the Sansui forum. If cosmetically good then certainly worth more than $50.
It is a very well regarded amp.

The AU-717 (and several Sansui models) have glue on the circuit boards that eventually eats away whatever it touches. Deoxit might be a quick fix but it will need to be refurbished. Good news is that it is worth more than what you invest even with refurbishment.

$50! That's a deal...all day long. Congrats. Be sure to clean the interconnect switch on the back panel. Easily overlooked and the usual culprit for channel cutout.

Even if you get it working okay with deoxit, it is well worth it to have it checked out inside and make sure it is up to specs. Seriously, an $80 fix right now may save you from a $250 fix later on.
