Sansui AU-999 Recap/Restoration Service

Hi,

I'm looking for an audio repair/restoration shop preferably near Puyallup or Tacoma, Washington area that specializes in reacapping/restoration of vintage Sansui receviers or amplifiers. I have a Sansui AU-999 amplifier that I would like to have recapped/restored. I found this one shop through online search but its down in Eugene Oregon. Company is called QRX Restore and its about 4 hour drive from where I live. Maybe if they are worth it, I might drive down there one day when this stay at home order is lifted. Thanks.

Agreed - they are worth it. Justin's recapped my AU-555A, AU-777 and Eight Deluxe. If I keep my 9090, it'll go to him for a full recap.

Ironically, my Eight was recapped by @blhagstrom prior to my ownership and it sounds wonderful - and he's a bit closer to you.

Don't think you can go wrong with either of those recommendations!
 
Hi Tony, I would like to add if I may. There is some well documented mods to make the 999 really shine. If you happen to take the amp to a tech, I would kinda insist on having them implemented. They are tried and trued mods and well documented as well. Some techs don’t like to “change” the amp from stock, but if you read some of the forums regarding the 999, you will read about it’s shortcomings.
After the mods and upgrades you will have a very beautiful sounding Sansui for years to come.

I've heard some good things about the kevzep mod. I am not a technician so I may have to do more research on it. I will definitely give blhagstrom a call. Qrx Restore in Eugene is a bit far for me. But Duvall, WA is a much more reasonable drive. Probably 30-40 minutes drive from Puyallup WA. Thanks again for all your feed back.
