Sansui AU-D7 220V to 120V

I recently picked up this unit but didnt pay attention to the 220V sticker on the back but in the Sansui plate its states that its 100/120/240 volts 50/60Hz power 270 watts. So my question is can I run it with 120V ? Without using a step down ? Do I have to switch internally in order to run 120V ? The cord is OEM and looks normal.

Of course it can be used at 120V if you switch this value. Depending on the model, the voltage selector may be on the back panel or inside. I think the au-d7 has the power voltage selector inside, on the fuse board.

Ok, good….I just bought a 1978 AU 317 from Florida with a 220 V sticker , so far it seems to be fine?….I don’t see a physical switch?

AU-317 multi-volt units have a pin switch board inside by the power transformer and single wire plugs that plug into the pins on the switch board to set voltage.

As others have said, if it is working fine it is probably already set to 120v. I have seen alot of units with 220v stickers on, and all have been 120v.
Also 220v would normally have a different plug end.

Not sure how that works. At one time I had four Yamaha amps with selectable voltage. They all had non-polarized two blade plugs that fit the NEMA 1-15R, or 5-15R or 5-20R style receptacles.

We're they set to 220v with those plug ends? Or were they just multi-volt adjustable as his unit is?
The final destination most likely determined how they were set and what plug/cord was installed.

They were all 2nd hand to me, set to 120V when I got them.

They all came from military/overseas. Where each was originally sold and used I can't recall. No evidence to me the cords had ever been changed based on external and internal appearance.
 
Units sold in a military exchange (this accounted for a LOT of Sansui product) were general export versions, meaning that they were configurable for 100, 120, 220 or 240VAC input. These were almost always supplied with a standard two prong cord of the type used in the US/Canada, and Japan. For voltages other than 100 or 120, either a plug adapter was utilized, or the cord end cut off and a region specific plug was attached. It appears the latter occured pretty infrequently, and a complete changing of the cord was even less common.

This was probably the case because most of this gear was intended to eventually be brought back home to the US by the military personnel who purchased it abroad, and so having these sets fitted with a standard US cord (that also conveniently worked as-is in Japan, for those stationed on bases there) just made sense.
