Sansui AU-D9

Just bought a non-working AU-D9 off of e-bay. My son and I are looking forward to seeing if we can get it working. I wanted to review all the threads on this forum to see what others' experience with this amp have been. Tried all kinds of searches: AU-D9, aud9, AUD9, "AU-D9", *AU-D9* but every time the response is there are no threads. I know that's wrong because I can see them.

Not off to an auspicious start if I can't even search for information.

If anyone can get me started in the right direction, I'd really appreciate it.

Best,

Jack

Hello,

The best bet is to use the search function but use the search that uses Google to comb the forums. If it still doesn't work for you go to google, then place the phrase 'Audiokarma AU-D9' without the ' ' on it. It should give you a large number of threads with information on the amp.

Good luck! I own one (recapped by Sir. Byrd) and I don't think I will ever part with it.

I just restored two AU-D9 units

Hi Jack: Here are some pics of my recent restoration efforts on the AU-D9 for a fellow AKer.

More effort to get apart and together than a AU-717 lets say, but less complex than an AU-919. It's all the wiring to solder lugs i dislike. In the 70's they would have used more gold plated pin/ molex connectors.

Very robust phono stage with 3 gain levels.... a great amp choice, especially if you're into vinyl.

Sansui glue can be an issue, as you will see in the pics.

Good luck to you and your son. Nothing like teaching him these skills, and maybe even build his vocabulary!

I am curious how much would be a fair price for an AU-D9, where the seller says that the final transistors need replacing? What should I look for if I check the unit out? Good luck Boomer453 with your unit. Sounds like a fun project for Dad and son to do, together.

Tim,

Google search did the trick.... Thanks, that was a big help.

Scott,

I'm pretty sure he already knows how to swear, so it will be more a lesson on flair and emphasis than on pure vocabulary.

I think it's going to be an interesting experience.... Bought some dummy loads as suggested, but not sure what I'm supposed to do with them. Got an o'scope off of Ebay and understand what it's for, but haven't quite figured out whether the amp is supposed to be powered on or not (assume so) when I test and haven't even tried yet to see if I can read a schematic well enough to trace the signal.

I'm hoping my son will have some natural aptitude for this. I'm more likely to fry it before we're done.

Michmoore,

I paid $125 plus shipping. Apparently, the outputs aren't working. It will be fun sleuthing to see if I can figure out what's wrong. Fixing it may be a different experience altogether.

Oh well, as more than a few dead people have said, "what's the worst that could possibly happen?"

Wish me luck. Once we get into this, I'll try to post some pictures so everyone can laugh at my expense.
