Sansui AU-D907 Protection

I have a Sansui AU-D907 here that has a problem. When powered up on my DBT, the bulb glows bright, the protection led flashes and RL602 engages while RL601 doesn't. If I unplug the 10-pin connector to the equalizer (F-2835) board, the DBT dims, the protection led flashes then stays on and RL602 engages while RL601 doesn't. This unit is the JDM version of the AU-919. Here's how I have it powered: Mains > 120v/100v step down converter > DBT > AU-D907.

Is there an easy way to find the short? Why doesn't RL601 engage? From what I can tell, RL601 is for Speakers A while RL602 is for Speakers B.

Another clue, turning the speaker selector switch to A or AB causes RL01 to engage. Turning it to OFF or B disengages RL01.
