Sansui AU11000a - modified binding posts?

Thinking of picking up this amp. I haven’t had the opportunity to audition it yet, but I noticed in the posting that the binding posts had been both swapped and reduced, merging the A/B.

This suits my purposes as I’ll be running it with just a two speaker setup (Fried Model R Series II) with banana plug cables, but does a mod like this negatively affect resale or compromise audio in any way?IMG_0041.jpeg

The improvement here is the upgrade to 4mm jacks providing a much better connection to the speakers, everyone wants that.

It is a consideration to no longer have the ability to connect 2 pairs of speakers. Of itself I don't find that very significant. It would however be useful to be able to revert to stock if needed.
 
I'd say it's a non issue that can easily be changed later if you were to resell.

Running more than one set of speakers can at times be the cause of destructive problems in vintage audio anyways.
 
I think that my feeling is that although the original speaker connections don’t have the convenience of banana jack connections for frequent changes;, they were certainly adequate for hooking up wires for speakers that would normally remain connected for long periods of time. The convenience of speaker terminals on the front of the unit’s side is great as it can easily be wired while in a rack or cabinet, however being recessed into the side makes it difficult to modify with larger terminals.

I have replaced original speaker connections on older speakers (JBL) with quality 5-way posts as these appear, but kept the original parts and didn’t alter the cabinets so that they could be returned to original as @mrk229 mentioned. Typically this was with terminals that had enough space around them for multiple types of connections, this modification seems to be cramped in to the recessed area and not really great for easily making connections other than banana, which would stick out pretty far on the side.

Not my favorite application of a binding-post modification, but if you feel that you will use banana plugs, fork lugs, or are planning to use speaker cables that wouldn’t fit in the original connectors (IIRC mine have 12AWG wires in them, but might be 14, it’s only 110WPC so it doesn’t need welding cable) and they fit very well,

Note that banana plugs with stiff cables as you’re contemplating, will stick out of the side quite far, there are 90* banana plugs that might work well here.

My AU-11000 is my repair shop service vehicle. Speaker swapping is a weekly occurrence.
 
as an idiot, can someone tell me why this would be modded like this? is it just because of the space limitation?

Some of us users swap out parts of our system on a regular basis.
Bananas jacks make this part of the process super easy.
As noted above, I use 8AWG wire as my speaker runs are over 25 feet.

i meant more of why it was using 1 speaker for A and one for B but looking at the back of it and your other post, it seems like it’s a space issue to have four banana plugs on one row

A) In A-B testing of different speaker systems for a client, two switchable outputs are required.
B) When it comes time for this treasure to it's next home, the new owner will likely want all the features available and functioning.
