Sansui AU777A repair Gone wrong?

Hi, hope i am posting in the right section!
I am after some comments / advice from the photos posted. I picked up an AU777a from a guy who has owned since new. He has given all the paperwork that went with it, and i believe it was unmolested. On playing, after a couple of hours the protection circuit kept cutting in, so I thought I will not play it anymore and have someone look at. I ended up taking it to a reputable and recommended dealer in Canberra. along with a couple of other amps i had that required work. One of which, on my return, (4.5 hour round trip) does not power on. (I won't say who as yet). Once repaired I was told a number of items had been repaired and some upgrades had been made. On dropping this amp off, I had told the guy that I had been after this amp for a while and that i would be keeping it, to which he had told me that they would only change what was required and leave it as original as they normally do. Anyway, once home, i have hooked it up, however, does not seem to have the same sound as it did on purchase. Yesterday i opened it to have a look, just to compare with other photos of this amp online. I was surprised to see this. (attached photo).

I had opened the amp when purchased, just to see if it was dirty or clean inside and did not notice anything unusual, unfortunately, I did not think to take any photos prior to taking for service. Any thoughts on what may of been done here? Seems to be a lot of capacitors missing!!

My thoughts are, if I received something to repair, that had previously been molested, would you not immediately call the client and let them know that something is not right. Knowing the client was quite particular on the repair and had asked if they use correct parts and do what was required to bring it back to how it should be? Thanks in advance, Mick.
*Note, I am not a tech by any means, just going by comparison photos.
Photo with capacitors is one I found on to net to compare!

10x markup on small value caps?!?!?!

curious as to why they would test a 30wpc amp to 52watts with only one channel driven.

i do not know what to think about the missing capacitors.

For me it would be a deal-breaker, installing the capacitors this way. Is part of the signature of this capacitor coupled amplifier.
I see no mentioning of asking you before, also no mentioning of the need for replacing the output transistors. And you mention that it sounds different then before, was it not working when you send it?
For sure not as original as possible and not limited to what is needed if the output transistors were not shorted.
Not how I would restore my AU-777.

Also, the "high voltage" filter capacitor isn't high voltage, nothing special, €5, so he charges 5 X, whooah if I would do that I will have to ask € 1000 for the parts of a simple but good restoration. Also it is the wrong diameter, so he screwd some extra holes in the plate, not necessary, there are capacitors with the correct diameter, or other ways to handle this.
Sad to see this.

Hi, hope i am posting in the right section!

Not that this is a wrong section, but for future reference there is a dedicated Sansui sub section here at AK.

There also a couple of Aussies who frequent that section who are well respected, top notch Sansui techs

I can't speak for them but maybe reach out to them and see if they can assist you

Btw, why would one want to replace the power outputs with more "robust" types, if there was nothing wrong with the originals?

And this is the real killer: "he had told me that they would only change what was required and leave it as original as they normally do."
