Sansui BA-F1 Protect Mode

Hi all. I just picked up a Sansui BA-F1 locally for $100. I quickly tested it on site and it worked fine. I brought it home and and it still sounds great. The only problem is when I just tried to push it it went into protect mode. I turned it off and on and it's fine again. I was playing it louder than normal listening levels but nothing crazy. I had the level controls on the amp set to about 3/4 and my (Rotel) preamp was at about 1 or 2 o'clock. I am using the AC inputs on the amp. The meters were bouncing happily around about 50% capacity. I'm pushing PSB Stratus Golds. Could it be something simple I am missing or is there something seriously amis? I'm a definite rooky so please use small words☺.

You have something very special there. I wouldn't use it any more until you hear from some of the experts here on AK. There are certain precautions you should take (like not turning it back on). Be patient. They will chime in. You should post this in the Sansui section too.

What is the impedance of your speakers? The Sansui is rated at 8 Ohms only, could be a problem with low imp. loads.

Great point. I had heard they could handle low impedance loads. I guess not. I'm confused then. The BA-F1 is high very highly regarded amp. They say it's built like a tank and is very robust. Doesn't that kind of go along with being able to handle tough loads? I've been driving them with a 115wpc denon integrated amp without any issues at all.
The PSBs are designed to be biamped. If I do then does it split the 4 OHM load into 8 ohm loads?
Thanks for the input.
