Sansui ba3000 vs Mark levinson?

sansuibutch

Super Member
I have been considering replacing my sansui ba3000 with a mark levinson 335 or 336. Obviously the levinson amps I'm considering are more powerful. I feel the ca3000 I have it paired with is what accounts for most of the sweet sound. Has anyone has a ba/ca 3000 set up and also heard one of the levinson amps I've mentioned? I would also be looking for a more modern preamp to pair with the levinson. Thank you.

I had a samsung m30s power amplifier and matching pre amp which were built by madrigal who i believe are behind mark levinson. At the time i had two ba3000s in mono with the ca 3000.

The samsung had more bass, more transparency, detail, imaging and really blew the sansui away.

The downside was no warmth and it was not forgiving on poor quality music. Dont have either now! Weakest link is your ca-3000 pre amp. I would try the ba-3000 with a passive pre

Really? I was all ways under the impression my ba3000 did not color the sound at all, just amplify what it's given. I thought the warmth and forgivingness of poor recordings was handled by the ca3000. I was under the impression that the ca3000 is where the real magic happens. Then again I have never owned a modern decent preamp. I appreciate your thought on the matter that's for sure. I've allways wanted one of the levinsons's I've mentioned. I just don't want to walk into it blind. Everybody is quick to say give it a listen before you purchase but that's not as easy as it sounds. Specially with my speakers in my room. Thanks again

something like this: http://audiokarma.org/forums/index.php?threads/krell-fpb-600-holy-hell.846551

with the caveat that some of these high end amps are so clean they do seem to have no warmth. Since there is so little discussion of them here on ak I don't have a feel for the different brands and can only say the McCormack DNA-1 is a nice amp but I have heard better, like a demo DNA-1 that I tried before my brother bought the one I have.
