Sansui G-6700 Popping Noise

Hey all new member here on the forum. A coworker gave me his old Sansui G-6700 series receiver and a pair of Bose 501 speakers. When I first used the setup it worked perfectly with no problems. Then I moved and I have tried and tried to get the set-up to work but it just wont. The speakers make a popping noise and they don't seem to be playing music at full power. Any help would be appreciated!

Hi, and welcome to AudioKarma -

Is your problem with AM, FM, Phono, AUX, or all?

If you have headphones, or can borrow a pair, plug them in and see if there is any improvement. You may need to toggle the speaker selector switch.

hello, have a very similar issue few years ago, it was small signal transistors failure on driver amp section , hope it helps and welcome .

Marantzfan93: Let me suggest that you not go in and start replacing parts unless you can confirm a failure or an out of spec component. It is a lesson I have learned the hard way!

Tiomilo's experience may be a good starting point, but it is not a confirmed solution. As we often say, YMMV (Your Mileage May Vary).

Do you have any experience with electronics, or test equipment like a DMM or oscilloscope? Or maybe a friend with experience, and a scope? A simple component tester can be made easily but requires a scope to display the results. It can test the inherent properties of a component while it is still connected in the circuit (no power applied) and the pattern displayed on the scope is compared to an identical test of the 'same' component in the other channel (TR01 to TR02 in this case).

Adding your location to you profile would be good because there might be another AKer in the area who could help.
