Sansui G-8000

70's Silver

Well-Known Member
Went and took a look at a local SoCal Cl posting this morning for a sansui g-8000. I have always wanted one of the big G's. This was the first time seeing one in the flesh. I have had a qr-4500 and still have a 7070 and like the build quality of both. I was a little disapointed with the switches and feel of the tuning knob compared to my sx-1050 and sx-1250. Is this just me or does anyone feel the same. I am not knocking sansui at all they made some of the best gear during the 70's I just like the feel of the switches and tuning knob on my pioneer more. I hate to say it but it has more of a quality feel. I know some think the x7000 series has the least build quality, so I was happy to find a local xooo series. Everything functions fine and besides needing a good cleaning it was in very nice condition. I picked it up for 175.00. Now I have to find some place to hid it from the WIFE. Does anyone know of a cure for this VINTAGE GEAR sickness. Thanks Craig

It may not have the build of the Pioneers mentioned, but I still have a G-8000.

Was it the one in the San Diego listing? I emailed that guy 3 times but never heard back.:tears: I thought he was a scammer just collecting email addresses.

By the way, if you can't hide it from the wife and need a place to stash it, let me know. I'd be glad to hold onto it for a while.:D

If she protests too much get a new wife!

There is no cure for this issue, to help with the symptoms make yourself a large man cave with lots of shelves, and many electrical outlets.

lbcgav, yes it was San Diego. The first time posted it was for 300.00 and I emailed him with no response. Then a couple days later the price was lowered to 200.00 so I tried again and he got back with me and she sits hidden in the garage lol. Hey I just might have to take you up on that. Are you located in SD. Craig

Unfortunately, no, I'm up near Pasadena.

I was willing to drive to San Diego to pick up that thing when it was $300 and emailed him twice. Then I saw him drop it to $200 and emailed him again with no response. At that point, I figured it was some sort of scam. Why would he ignore interest when it was $300 and then lower it to $200? I guess I wasn't persistent enough. Glad you came up with it. I could still hold onto it if you're ever in the LA area, but that's probably not practical for you.

Good luck and congratulations of finding such a great deal.

Bigears once said you can hide 20 Sansui 9090's behind a couch. Instead of hiding stuff in front of the big G think how much you can hide behind It. Only known cure for our addiction is to buy more. And dont share model#s with the wife. Thats how they realize you have 2, 3, and even 4 of the same model. Just sayin

Exc. buy, just like everyone else have said, you need a place for her, there's always my house, lol. There are 3 of us in Northwest Washington, that have had, just about every Monster built,in the watts war(1974-1981)Everyone one of us still has a G-8000,9000.Best receiver built in that era,IMPO.

The only ones that I have are 2 G5000 and they are not going anywhere. Many pioneers and marantz have came and gone. At that price I would be very happy.

Well I have to admit that out of the various Pioneers and Marantz units I have owned that all though I do not care for the black plastic cover on the cabinet on my G-9000DB instead of metal and vinyl wrap instead of wood it sounds better than just about all of the other brands and models I have owned only the SX-1010 remains a contender and it has a totally different sound than other SX models and I have owned virtually all the big ones including the SX-1980 and the G-9000DB is much better.
