To clarify, you are getting FM in mono, but no sound in stereo? And when you state "no light", is this the digital display you are referring to, or just the stereo/quartz lock indicator(s)?

n mono it sounds perfectly, in stereo no sound, or maybe should i say it has a very very little sound. i am referring on the stereo/quartz lock indicators not the display. and by the way, in fm stereo, the signal indicator on the display also works

Sounds like the FM muting isn't releasing. I don't own an 8700DB, is there an FM muting off button on the front panel? If so, turn that on and see how it reacts.

there is an fm mode switch on the front panel, if it is ON, it is in auto mode or stereo, if it is off, it is in mono mode

Ok. I'm going to figure the tuner needs an alignment. It's pretty typical behavior for these not to be able to lock on to the stereo signal if they aren't in good alignment. Due to the underlying design, they won't release the muting unless a stereo signal is being received. That's why you can get mono but no stereo, as the FM mode switch forces all reception to mono on these models when the muting is turned off. At least it doesn't sound like an issue with the dreaded pre-scaler chip (OKI MSM5540), which is no longer available as a new replacement part.

thanks sansuiman. if it is in stereo mode, some frequencies indicates that there is a strong signal as i watch on the signal indicator on the display

I've had similar problems with a digital tuner on a Kyocera receiver from about 83 or 84. It appears to get good signal strength, but will not release the muting. The unit receives perfectly in mono mode. Apparently this is a fairly common issue in a number of early digital tuner sections, and seems to be remedied in most cases by having a proper alignment done. Of course there could still be some other issue in play, but odds are better than not that it just needs an alignment.

^ good call. Just make sure you're using a residue free cleaning spray.

Try using a real FM dipole antenna. The signal may not be strong enough to get stereo. If that doesn't work, it needs alignment. This requires sophisticated test gear. Take it to a tech with rf experience. If you tell us where you are located, someone may know a reliable tech in your area.
