Sansui G22000 vs G33000

As cool as the G-xx000 twins are, I have trouble calling them "receivers." More like a matched tuner/pre and amp set, even if they were designed to be bolted together. HH Scott had a similar setup in the tube era, but you had to buy the amp separately.

They are definitely receivers. The amp won't work as a stand alone and look at the dial face. That says receiver in my book. It's in two pices because both pieces together weigh over 100lbs. It's also 24" deep. Two pieces makes it more "furniture friendly"

Here's my first G22 done in Honduran Mahogany.

Got my stand built today.. I just got done re-modeling the room and had some leftover stuff..

Man do i need to dust.. camera shows everything!!

Yeah, the damn dust really is enhanced with the close-ups alright!!.........

Nice work Toby, I'm thinking about modeling some kind of custom shelving situation for my system.
The Big G's are just TOO BIG for anything you can buy......so this is why Im thinking to just make something, and a lot of stuff is too low.
Im kinda tall (6ft) so I like to have things quite high, so I dont have to bend over much....

Yeah, they are receivers, but what a bloody HUGE receiver they are.....the numbers on the tuning scale are massive.........I love it!!

That mahogany looks beautiful Pete........:thmbsp:

I actually found an entertainment stand that worked with the 33 and my flat screen.. but it BARELY fit. Didn't look very good.. and it was right at the rated weight limit for the stand. I'm right around as tall as you too, and another downfall is that it was at knee level.

The shelf was made out of a bunch of scrap pine 1x2"s and 2x2"s.. and some laminate flooring. The back and sides of the shelf are screwed right into studs for th best support. Took about 4 hrs to complete. I'll probably dress it up a bit with some stain and of course....DUST!

Regards to the preamp only section.. yes you can use it as a straight preamp. but without the umbilical cord plugged in it constantly flashes protect. I've used just the pre-amp before, and just left the power amp off.

Yeah, custom cabinets are definitely the way to go......

They were not intended as a stand alone Pre-amp with the interaction between the poweramp and the output meters, and the protector indicators being integral to the running of the system together.....
Having said that, if the blinking protector LED doesnt bother you and also having no output meters, then theres no other reason it wouldnt work as a stand alone preamp......

I don't think the protection LED blinks with the amp disconnected... I could be wrong.

Yeah it does.. I just tried  Another thing you can do is run the 22 pre with the 33 amp.. and vice versa.

I've seen a couple orphan tuner/pre sections come up on the 'bay occasionally. how they get separated is beyond me.. but i guess anything can happen.

Hey Pepa how do you like those WLM speakers?

BTW my family has a house in Zadar. Where are you?

If memory serves, the tuner/preamp section will work with any other amp.

So will any receiver with pre-outs.

Pepa, the power meters won't work and the protection LED will flash continuously if the preamp tuner is used without the amp attached.

Since I first saw the 22000 I was facinated by it and started looking for one to buy. I picked up one of the "Orphan" Pre/tuners on E bay. It does work alone, but as others stated the protection light blinks and the meters do not function. I have it mated with an adcom 5800 for now but I have been looking for the matching amp, if anyone has a lead I would appreciate it!

I am highly pleased with these speakers (although best synergy is achieved with Almarro and Mosvintage)...I tried several others and,as you can see WLM is still here.

That's great...PM will be sent soon

Pepa, the power meters won't work ...

Tnx Pete...but I thought I said the same thing :scratch2:
