Sansui P-D10 - Autoreturn Doesn't Lift Arm Fast Enough

Rob_Feature

On my Sansui TT when it gets to the runout groove the auto return works fine, but it starts swinging back too quickly, before the arm is all the way up, thereby scratching for a quick moment before the needle clears the record. Most turntables pause for a second before returning (this one starts returning immediately). Using the cue lever, the cue works fast and just fine (ie. its not due to a weak cue function).

What needs to be adjusted in this case? Is it the auto-return or something with the cue? Thanks in advance for any tips! (obviously specific tips on what to adjust would be ideal, but not expected)

you need the service manual, should tell you how to adjust all those movements,
when to lift, how high, return to, etc.

I wouldn't assume all Sansui TTs have the same mechanism, so do try
vinylengine, for the SM, and poke through the TT comment sections.

First thing to adjust is the tone arm (return) height. :)

See owner' manual and service manual:

This seems to be a common problem on these, I'm finding a couple other posts with this problem too. The service manual doesn't address it, but there should be an adjustment somewhere...
