Sansui P-M7 skipping

Hi,

I am wondering if anyone has any idea on a problem I am having with my turntable, it plays a 33 or a 45 but will play one song of a 33 generally before starting to skip and plays about a quarter through a 45 and does the same, I have attached a new stylus and also renewed all grease where it needs to be. I do notice however that the tone arm carriage moves gradually as it should but when it starts skipping the tone arm is at an angle and I need to give the tonearm carriage a little push and it continues. I'm hoping it just needs new belts but they don't particularly look stretched.

If you put the turntable into play, then lift the arm and pull it slightly toward the center of the record, does it try to move on its own? Usually there's a lamp and a photodiode that sense the arm needs to move, which then sends power to the arm carriage motor, which then moves the carriage. It sounds like your arm isn't moving on its own, and starts to skip once it reaches the maximum angle.

Reason the arm won't move include

Bad belt
Bad motor
Burned out lamp
Weak photo diode
Dirty carriage rails
Electronic problems

Etc. But start with testing if it's trying to move. It might just be that the belt is slipping and a new one will restore operation.

This is a linear tracking turntable. The arm stays straight.
It is likely belt problems.
Belts can look ok, but be too dried out and hard to actually grip.
There are good repair videos on these.
