Sansui QR1500

Just picked up a Sansui QR1500 in excellent condition but have distortion in left channel. Can someone tell me what a suitable replacement transistor might be? the ones in it are Hitachi C1060 transistors? I believe one of the output transistors are shorted.

First off I'd try swapping the driver/output boards. Edge card deal, easy to pull and replace. Make sure it's the amp. I used a NTE sub, pinouts were the same as the 1060. I'll have to look tomorrow and see the number.

I swapped the boards and the culprit is definety on the rear output board. I'm not certain that its an output transistor, but from my research on the web most people that had an issue with this receiver had shorted transistors. It sounds and looks great and works well using only 1 channel but I'd like to fix the other. I am close to a frys electronics and they sell NTE transistors. I just need to know which number substitute. thanks

Mine had Hitachi c1060 outputs, that's 2sc1060. Crosses to NTE 152. And if needed, 2sa629 (802) to NTE 159, 2sc634a (804, 6) to NTE 85, 2sa678 (808) to NTE 290a. Wouldn't hurt to check bias across the fuse terminals, mine had a bad trimmer and really warmed up the outputs. Pretty good all around receiver when right, decent sound and power with interesting effects.

Hey, thanks for all the info on the output transistors. I'm gonna check around locally before I order them on-line. I think even RS carries a few outputs in their stores, and you are right, it does sound pretty sweet for a lower watt receiver. I was quite impressed with the difference between 2 channel and 4 channel. 1 other question is the output transistors in the receiver now (1060) have the middle pin not used (clipped off). What do I do with the replacements with a center pin? (not use it or clip it off)

Clip it off. The collector is on this pin and also on the cooling/mount fin and gets connected with the nut and bolt through to the printed circuit trace.
