I was given this unit that had no output, so I started with the basics. I was stuck in protection mode with no relay click. I did some research and learned that if I remove the front and read boards and the relay clicked, it wasn't the protection circuit that was acting up. I then proceeded to install just the rear channel board and it clicked. After realizing that the two boards for front and rear and interchangeable, I put the other one in the rear channel and got a click. If I put the front board in, no click and is the same for either board. I then got set back as I stupidly put on of the boards in backwards and fried a resistor. I'm in the process of fixing that now. They really should have keyed the boards so reverse installation isn't possible.
So now my question. If I am on the right track, I'm thinking it has to be the output transistors for the front channel? Can I test them in circuit, or should I remove them for testing. Also, if one is bad, should I replace all four for the front channel so as not to have an imbalance from old and new? It seems about $24 for a pair, so $48 for the channel. Sound about right?
Anyway, would love to get it working and off my bench so I can get to my own repair projects, so any help or suggestions are appreciated. Never worked on a receiver other than recapping and deoxit.
Thanks!
