Sansui QRX-7500A Find - Opinions

Up in the NoVa area this week for business and my father-in-laws birthday. Stopped in a Salvation Army this morning just as they were bringing drop-offs into the store. Ended up scoring a Sansui QRX-7500A quad receiver and TEAC A-480 tape deck for about the price of a couple of combo meals at your favorite fast food joint. Looks like they have come from the original owner as their were two pair of Sansui SP-5050 speakers there as well but I passed on them.

Cleaned up the 7500A and the face plate is practically mint. Will need to replace one bulb though everything else seems fine. Wood case is in good shape except for a small chip on the side and on the very rear corner.

Testing it right now with a pair of Minimus 7's and sounds clear and issue free. Does not seem to be a lot of info on them so anything anyone here would like to share regarding their knowledge of and experience with this receiver would be welcomed and appreciated.

That was the top of the line quad before the introduction of the QRX-9001. It should sound great but does not have the last generation decoder. Enjoy.

Thanks for the feedback. Based on limited listening it does sound very good.

Anyone have thoughts on how this piece compares to some of the better 2-channel only Sansui receivers?

Have a rare day off today so I went ahead and hooked this up to my BBC Monitors. Overall I think it matches up better with these speakers than the Marantz 2245. The speakers are 15 ohms and so I had to turn the volume knob a bit on the Marantz to get a reasonable level of sound not so with the Sansui. I know I was not overloading the Marantz I just did not like the fact that I had to have the volume turned up higher than should be needed. Sound wise the Sansui has good synergy with the BBC Monitors so no drop off there. Listened to some Luka Bloom and Charlie Parker and this receiver/speaker combo is a great match for Acoustic and Jazz! Looks like it will now be part of the regular line-up.

Best of all the wooden case and size matches up better with the rack so it has received significant WAF points. :D

what ever you do dont spray into the volume knob. Mine was silent until i sprayed into it...now up to 8 oclock there is static when i turn the knob...maybe it needs lube on mine? Very nice receiver for sure I use mine with 16 ohm Pioneer CS 51 which has the pioneer PE 12 in it. Awesome little speaker. Ready here some time soon to put a M&K S1 sat on it. been lazy to do so just yet...:)

Hmmmm... You may want to go grab the speakers. Although Sui speakers aren't highly regarded you may find the original owner had them for a reason. I have a pair of sp1500 on the front of my 7500 and after auditioning several others have settled on the Suis for now. I mean what's the investment, twenty bucks? Give em back if you don't like them.

I think the "A" stands for an intermediate decoder from the QRX7500 and the x001 series. I really like the 7500 and 5500 I have. Have fun. I love the quads more than the 2 channel lines personally.

Believe me given what they had quoted me for the receiver and tape deck it was tempting. :scratch2: Especially since they were most likely all put together for a quad set-up. But I really have no more room for speakers and that is the one area where I really have excelled in getting some quality pieces.

Since the tuner area need some calibration I went ahead last night and hooked up my Sansui TU-S9 tuner to the receiver using one of the Tape jacks. It works like a champ so I am keeping it all in the Sansui family with one of the more highly regarded tuners.

Thanks for the info on the "A". There really does not seem to be too much info out there on these which seems a bit surprising given the sound quality. Perhaps it is the size or maybe people find the quad aspect too much of a gimick. In either case it really is an excellent receiver for 2-channel listening. :thmbsp::thmbsp:

I've never heard one but it was a very high end model at that time. It should sound as good or better than 2 channel receivers of that era but won't be as powerful (per channel) as the TOTL 2 channel receivers.

After listening to it now for a while it certainly outperforms the Marantz 2245 (at least with these speakers). I think these BBC Monitors must be fairly efficient and with the level I listen to music on 35 wpc is more than enough power.
