Sansui QRX 8001 Amplifier Review Buying Guide

AoA everyone,
Recently found this Sansui Qrx 8001 on a local pawn shop here where nothing moves around beyond 50 dollars. However, I found this amp at a shop in so so condition. I haven't checked it but it's turning on with all the green and yellow lights glowing. with only one cap of radio button missing. it's all dusty. the guy wants me to pay around 70 us dollars as it is meaning with gold or dirt as a junk.

what you guys say, may I give it a shot. 7o us dollars is 25% of my salary to give you an idea of value of money in these eastern parts of the world.
Plz help me make a decision.

As a parts unit it's probably worth a few hundred dollars. Working, a bit more.

That said, it will probably need a lot of work, and money, to get it functioning correctly. If you have been looking for a quad receiver, and don't mind the possibility of having to put money in it, $70 is a good price.

If you do not want a quad receiver, I say pass on it.

Thank you Rob, just to get an idea I am in love with sansui sound signature, recently using sansui A 60 amp as my daily driver and pioneer as a receiver. Can you anything about qrx 8001 sound quality and sound signature.

Should sound like the X0X0 series receivers. Like the 8080.

Has a warm full sound.

I prefer the more detailed sound of the later Sansui units.

For reference I had a QRX-9001 and a 9090DB.

Hello guys,
Thank you for your advice I got the qrx 8001 in 35 US dollars.
However when I opened it it is full of rust and dirt. iam not sure if it is going to work after repair or not.
Secondly, give me the idea if it dosnt work for me how can I sell it in parts.

Rust and dirt can be superficial issues. Testing the unit for function will be the best way to help determine it's fate. Cleaning the dust is time consuming and laborious but can be useful in evaluating various boards. Superficial rust is usually not harmful except that may indicate switches and potentiometers [POTS] & switches will need attention. The QRX units are not good candidates for first time units to learn on. If you decide to part out the unit there are parts that are in demand such as the F2624 Driver Circuit Boards [there are two of them], the F2087, F2088, & F2589 pcb's. The last three are associated with the quad feature of the QRX's. When stripping down the unit it will help if you are careful about just cutting wires to remove boards and parts. The best approach is to cut wires right at the termination point of the wire. Some boards are easy to remove by pulling out of the sockets and others have very involved and intricate wiring on the board. The boards that have complicated wiring terminated to them will sell better if the source wiring is cut right at the respective PCB. A good example would be the speaker selector switch. If you cut the wires at the switch the switch will be almost worthless because the wiring is very difficult to replace at the switch. Sell the switch with all the wiring intact to the speaker outlets and sell as a complete unit [switch, wiring, speaker terminals intact]. There will be a couple of wires you will need to cut at the switch but do it as close as possible to the source PCB. You should be able to recover you investment by selling one F2624 PCB alone. Good luck with restoration.

Thank you for the detailed reply, it helped a lot. over the internet, came a cross a website qrx restore. com and I also emailed em the pictures of my qrx to get an idea about repairing.But they haven't written back.

QRX Restore did a great job on my AU-7700, but they want $800 to do my QRX-6500 the same way.

omg Dr. ears. I think I have to put it on hold for a while. Here in Pakistan I haven't find anyone who dares to work on this machine let alone try to fix it. Let me have it cleaned and stored before I could muster such courage and arrange for that much money.
800$ for the fix plus 400$ for return shipment. People around me think I am insane.

That's a tough question seeing as you're in Pakistan I doubt anyone here will know what you can sell the parts for or where and who you can sell them to
