I need help with my SC 3330 cassette deck which has an issue with the tension arm assembly. In play back mode the tape take up tension is to loose and disengages during playback causing it to stop playing (like end of tape). When I remove tape there is about an inch of tape that has not been wound up. Does anyone know how to remedy this, I am not sure if the felt pad or spring tension on the tension arm assembly (part # 111) is the problem. I have had a new belt kit installed and all other functions work as expected. I have posted here on the Sansui forum and not had any reply's so I am hoping for help here. Any help would be much appreciated.

I know with Nakamichi decks if you have issues with the take up hub having low tension, its usually the Idle Tire. Does your deck have an idle tire?
If its just belts, then I hope you have the right belts. if your belts are good then you'll have to explore the mechanism a bit to see whats not making full contact.
Hows the pinch roller on the deck by the way?
 
Found an extra old belt inside my tape deck, it was pretty straight forward to change but was no good, or it needs something else-will check with the site you mentioned.
 
Hey thanks for your input everyone, I had almost given up looking for help. I got the belt kit (5 belts) from Vintage Electronics as well. They are rather hard and don't seem very pliable but they do have a life time warranty. The only belt that is hard to change is the capstan belt, You actually have to remove the play back solenoid plunger, slide it over the plunger then slip it through the bracket in order to get it over the motor pulley. It explains it fairly well in the owners manual. The pinch roller seems ok but you may have good point there. I will have to look closer at that. Yes it does have an idler tire but the tension assembly seems to be the weak point.

Still working on it, temporary fix was to put a piece of 600 grit sand paper ( same size as felt disk) between the felt disk and metal component. I have played a couple of tapes and it seems to work but I don't want to use it as I am not sure if it will do more damage. This seems to confirm that there is not enough friction in the tension assembly to keep the front sprocket turning during playback?? I contacted the fellow on ebay, he said he would research it and get back to me.
 
The Sansui 3330 capstan belt i got from vintage electronics were way too tight. Really irregular playbk speed. Reused the old belt. The other 4 belts were ok.
