Sansui Serial Number Database Update

Thanks for posting, they will be in the June report available in early July.

AU-D907X: 634020985, Reclaimer117 (Unable to date as this is a Japanese version)
8080: 826041224, Reclaimer117 (April 1976)

The date code isn't dependent on a particular version. Your AU-D907X was built on assembly line 63 in February of 1984. It was the 985th unit produced on that line that month.

I've got the G-4700 S/N 820023055 in your list that I've owned for roughly 2 years. Does that mean the previous owner before me submitted it here on AK?
Did you buy it on the Reverb auction site? It was listed there in August of '22. We have a world wide network of AK members that glean serial numbers from these auction sites every month. Your G-4700 was built on assembly line 82 in February, 1980. It was the 3,055th unit produced on that line that month.

I can attach your username to this serial number if you like.

Yes, I did buy it on Reverb back in 2022. Very interesting information regarding when and were it was produced. And I would like my username attached to this S/N.

Thanks

In addition to the G-4700 above, you can add and attach my username to these two units:

820112900 = AU-555A. My parents purchased this new from Team Electronics in Great Falls, MT in March 1971.
211010428 = TU-666. I think about 1973, same store.

Both still work.

Please use this format when posting serial numbers:
AU-555A,820112900,cq.ab0nf
TU-666,211010428,cq.ab0nf

I process hundreds of serial numbers every month and they all need to be in this format to be able to upload them in bulk. Nothing else on the line, no spaces and the commas are very important.

Your AU-555A was built on assembly line82 in November 1970. It was the 2900th unit off that line that month.
The TU-666 was built on line 21 in January 1971, the 428th unit off that line that month. Line 21 was busy that month. It was also building AU-999s, BA-150s, TU-888s and RA-500s. Even with that range of models the highest production number for that month was just under 500 units.

I have this exact AU/TU combo sitting next to my PC right now. The AU-555A powers my computer sound system driving a pair of ADS-300s. It has been in this service almost 20 years. It's all original, never been restored. It's a great little amp.

We used to assembly Au 555 here in greece .
Well the rep did.
They were arriving as spare parts and the workers assembled them into full amps. Great times.
The rep sold them at almost half the price.

Hopefully I got the format right.

It would be interesting to see the back panel with ID plate and Serial number of one of these Greek AU-555s. I'm curious on how they would identify it's point of origin. We have seen examples of other models built/modified by distributors in other European countries.

Format's perfect, thanks! These will be added to the July report available in early August.

Thanks @pfab. Your AU-20000 was built on production line 21 in October '75. It was the 150th unit off that line that month. Line 21 was also building AU-9500s and AU-9900s that month.

Pete,

I was looking at the B-2301 in the database- as you may know, these 300 Watt units were quite expensive when they were new, thus I dont think Sansui produced them in large quantities, as can be seen by the low serial #'s, typically 000x- but I noticed the low #'s only on Assembly line 21 (and similar for the C-2301, B-2302...) but I noticed the monthly production is alot higher on some of the other Assembly lines.

Thus, was #21 dedicated to only producing these models? (which coincides with the low quantities).

A couple things to keep in mind when looking at production information. The last 4 digits of a serial number represent the number of units produced on that line that month. In most cases, multiple models were built on the same line during the month.

Looking at B-2301 production, we have 41 examples on file. The earliest ones were built on line 21 in October, 1982. Production continued on line 21 with units being produced in October and December '82, January, March, June, August, October 1983 and February, March and April 1984. In April 1986 production shifted to line 66 and it resumed on line 21 in September '89. Looking at what else was produced on Line 21 during these months:

Oct '82; B-2301
Dec '82; B-2301, AU-X11, C-2301 Vintage
Jan '83; B-2301, B-2201C, B-2201 Vintage
Mar '83; B-2301, B-2201 Vintage, AU-X11, B-2201C
June '83; B-2301, B-2101, Z-9000X, SE-77, AU-X11
Aug '83; B-2301, B-2201 Vintage, AU-D11ii, PC-V1000
Oct '83; B-2301, B-2201 Vintage
Feb '84; B-2301, AU-D77X
Mar '84; B-2301, B-2201 Vintage, C-2301 Vintage, TU-S77AMX

Looking at this data, the only month that production was "dedicated" to the B-2301 is October '82 and that is just based on three units on file. It's likely there are others out there that haven't been reported.

Line 21 has a very long history. We have 2,913 on file that were produced on that line. The data shows production started in February 1968 with a TU-777. Dozens of different models were built on this line over it's history. Production runs were likely driven by orders from distributors and the capability of the line. During this time period, 21 built mostly high end models. By definition, high end models are low production.

Thanks for the info/analysis.

Another one for the heap. Unfortunately my newly acquired 661 serial number tag is to faded to read. Thanks, TB
